PXE Server - ESXi -No Boot filename received

Hi,

I am setting up my first VSHPERE server would greatly appreciate any help.

The server is a HUAWEI RH2288H V2 with 128 GB RAM and 1.5TB storage.

I have successfully loaded ESXi 6.0.0, booted it, and configured my first VM, which is to be a SUSE Linux server, with 64GB of RAM and 300GB of Storage. My ESXi server is visible on the network and I have reserved a static ip address for it.

Next I tried to load the Linux OS by putting the installation disk in the DVD and configuring the VM to boot into the BIOS. When I started the VM it did enter the BIOS but instead of booting from DVD it tried "Network boot from VMWARE VMXNET3."

And then gave the error:  PXE-E53: No Boot filename received

From Google searches I learned that I need to set up a PXE server. I tried downloading a product called CBOOT but found it required setting up the PXE Server as a DHCP server and disabling the main DHCP server, which in my environment is the main router. This is not an option.

So my current objectives are:

1. Set up my Windows 7 pro workstation as a PXE server on the network. (without making it a DHCP server!)

2. Configure my ISO of SUSE LInux so that the VMware VMXNET3 will find it and install Linux when I start the VM.

I have found a whole lot of pages on the net about this, but so far nothing suited to a beginner like myself.

What I really need is some clear steps to follow to accomplish my mail goal of loading linux on the VM.

And please let me know if there is a better overall approach than the one I am taking.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Mel
