Re: VMWARE Linux Issue to connect with Putty

We seem to be getting nowhere fast!  You're not answering the questions I ask nor are you commenting on important information I presented in my last reply.  Additionally I asked that you create a plan vanilla default install of OEL from V40139-01.iso, not modifying anything, and yet you installed from the V31119-01.iso file!  I went to the trouble to download the V40139-01.iso file and create a VM of what you were using so we'd be as much on the same page as possible.  You also did not do a default install as you assigned 4 processor cores and upped the memory to 2048 from the defaults of 1 and 1024.   It is extremely frustrating trying to help someone who's not following directions and or answering questions or commenting on important information being given and for that I'm just going to have to bow out and let others try and help you.

I'd suggest you use the Reset Default button in the Virtual Network Editor so as to remove any conflicts that may being caused by placing VMnet1 on the same Subnet as the Host and then maybe download a Ubuntu Live ISO CD Image and do some basic network testing with it using both Bridged and NAT (VMnet8 by default) so you can be assured there are no conflicts between the Host and Guest and the default VMware Virtual Network Infrastructure is working as expected.  By reseting the Virtual Network Editor and using a Live OS ISO Image, taking normal defaults and not modifying anything, you'll be able to diagnose/troubleshoot things better with defaults then you modifying things that IMO you do not understand.  I'm not meaning to be harsh just calling it as I see it since generally speaking with officially supported OSes the basics just work as expected out-of-the box!
