It does work on Windows XP 32, where do you get the idea that it does not?

Its your processor (CPU) that is too old, not your Windows version.

Here are the CPU-requirements from VMware Player 4 and later:

- 64-bit x86 CPU

- LAHF/SAHF support in long mode

If your CPU does not meet these requirements then you can still use an older version of VMware Player. (Version 3.1.6 is the latest there)
